Ice Shows

The Helena Figure Skating Club proudly presents two ice shows a year; a Christmas and a spring show. These performances are a great way for our club members and our Basic Skills students to show their progress and to build on their confidence of performing in front of an audience. These shows help the skaters prepare for competitions and gives them a chance to perform for family and friends. It is also a great way for the community to support all of the hard work done by the skaters and coaches with the help of parents and volunteers.

The Spring Show will be on February 13th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.  *Check back for more information.

Skater of the Month!

som1

Aislinn Heather Munck began skating with the Helena Figure Skating Club when she was five years old. She started in the Basic Skills program. Her first coach was Diana Geary Cook who moved when Aislinn was in first grade. Kristin Gallas who was pivotal in helping develop Aislinn’s form, grace, and skating style then coached her. When Kristin moved to Boston, Kelly Olson became Aislinn’s coach for the next three years. Kelly’s coaching helped Aislinn pass her different level moves tests. When Kelly stopped coaching to pursue her masters degree, Linda Crowley, who also coached Kelly, took over as Aislinn’s head coach. It was with Linda that Aislinn passed her senior moves and freestyle tests, becoming the only Helena skater to date to pass both tests which are the highest level tests specified through United Figure Skating.

Aislinn has earned many medals around the state throughout the years as well as a bronze medal at the National Showcase on Ice Competition held in Dallas TX, and gold and bronze medals at the National State Games of America held in Colorado Springs CO.

Aislinn has also been coaching in the past few years. She loves working with new skaters and passing on her knowledge, wisdom, and passion for the sport. Her main advise to new skaters is to get their tests passed. These tests not only validate the skater’s hard work, they also help the skater earn their credentials if they decide to coach in the future.

In March she was called for an on ice audition for Disney on Ice while they were on tour in Billings. She has been informed that she is in their casting list and is now waiting to hear when and where she will be cast.

Aislinn recently graduated from Cum Laude from Helena High School. She has been accepted and received the Dean’s Scholarship to Gonzaga University in Spokane WA. She plans to study government and political science and go on to law school.

Her years with the Helena Figure Skating Club have been invaluable. She has learned many life lessons while skating and also made wonderful friends. She and Crystal Curry, a top- level skater and coach with the club, have grown up together and consider themselves “ice sisters”. She will miss her “family” at the Helena Ice Rink including her students, coaches, and parents who have given her such tremendous support throughout the years.
